Engineering Manager – Digital Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• This is a hands-on technical management position. The Engineering Manager possesses the ability to dive into the code when necessary to assist the team—resolving critical production issues, unblocking engineers, validating architectural choices, and providing coaching on coding practices.

• Responsible for managing the strategic relationship with external delivery partners for digital product execution; ensures accountability for staffing commitments, capability standards, and role-specific expectations (tech lead, scrum master, developers) across various pods.

• Ensures that vendor engineers assigned to each pod possess the necessary expertise; addresses any skill gaps through staffing choices, coaching, or personnel changes.

• Manages the long-term balance between internal and vendor resources—determining what remains with vendors and what transitions in-house. Develops and implements a 12-18 month transition roadmap prioritizing based on risk and value.

• Responsible for hiring and managing the internal engineering team—recruits engineers as required, directs the team’s efforts, guarantees quality and delivery, and shifts the scope from content updates to higher-value development tasks.

• Oversees hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.

• Gradually builds the internal team—identifies roles to be transitioned in-house, hires for these roles, and nurtures engineers from within.

• Establishes the rhythm for 1:1s, team rituals, and engineering operational norms; fosters a culture of ownership, quality, and collaboration with Product.

• Identifies and plans for technical debt remediation across both stacks; conducts regular assessments of code quality and architectural integrity across pods.

• Maintains consistency in engineering practices across pods—ensures adherence to code standards, deployment practices, quality benchmarks, and supports the achievement of user experience objectives.

• Responsible for platform operational reliability—ensures uptime, incident response effectiveness, and thorough follow-through on post-mortems.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years in software engineering, including at least 3 years in a managerial role overseeing engineering teams.

• A hands-on background in full stack engineering—has previously deployed production code and retains the capacity to debug, troubleshoot, and contribute code. Technical credibility with developers is essential.

• Proven experience in building or expanding internal engineering teams—has successfully hired, onboarded, and developed engineers.

• Experienced in transitioning work from vendor or consulting partners to internal teams—understands the factors that contribute to successful or unsuccessful transitions.

• Experience managing across hybrid technology stacks (Salesforce + modern web technologies such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node AWS, Vercel, Hygraph, CDP, Convex, or similar multi-stack environments).

• Experience managing offshore vendor teams or consulting partners (e.g., Cognizant, Accenture, or comparable firms).

• Skill in designing self-service models for marketing and business teams (CMS, content management, configuration-driven UI).

• Strong collaborative relationship with Product leadership; comfortable working within matrix structures where Product is accountable for outcomes and Engineering is responsible for capabilities.
