Engineering Manager, Developer Tooling

📋 Description

• Lead, nurture, and expand a team of engineers responsible for creating and managing CI/CD pipelines and related tooling.

• Take ownership of the architecture, roadmap, and reliability of our CI/CD pipelines from source to production.

• Incorporate AI capabilities into the developer workflow, including AI code reviews on pull requests, AI-generated tests, intelligent test selection and flake detection, AI-assisted failure triage, and engineering intelligence dashboards that highlight bottlenecks and impact.

• Collaborate with the broader DevEx organization to implement, support, and evaluate the adoption of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) across product engineering teams.

• Develop paved road templates, reusable libraries, and golden paths that facilitate optimal practices for product teams.

• Drive measurable enhancements in pipeline reliability, build and test durations, and developer wait times.

• Work with the security team to create supply chain controls, enforce policies, and establish AI-specific guardrails within the pipeline.

• Collaborate closely with the Infrastructure Services team, which manages CI/CD orchestration, GitOps continuous delivery, artifact management, and related platforms, as well as product engineering teams that utilize the pipelines.

• Establish on-call practices, incident response plans, SLOs, and continuous improvement cycles for pipeline systems.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers, fostering an environment where talented engineers can thrive.

• CI/CD pipelines serve as the lifeblood of an engineering organization, and AI is increasingly becoming an integral component of that process. The Manager of Developer Tooling will lead the team responsible for defining how code is safely, quickly, and confidently delivered to production, with AI as a key participant in the workflow. This role is critically significant and will greatly influence engineering velocity and reliability company-wide.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role, preferably within DevOps, platform engineering, or developer experience teams.

• Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD systems, including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Tekton, or similar, along with pipeline as code patterns.

• Practical experience in integrating AI tools into the development workflow, including AI code reviews, AI test generation, AI coding assistants, or engineering intelligence platforms such as LinearB, DX, Jellyfish, Faros, or similar.

• Familiarity with ArgoCD or similar GitOps tools, and artifact management systems like Artifactory, Nexus, or Harbor.

• A solid grasp of Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native deployment models.

• Experience in designing shared libraries, templates, or platforms utilized by multiple internal teams.

• Proven ability to balance hands-on technical leadership with managerial responsibilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical strategies to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
