Engineering Manager – Compose

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Lead, recruit, and develop a team of full-stack engineers through one-on-one meetings, clear expectations, coaching, and performance management.

• Take ownership of end-to-end delivery by utilizing rapid experimentation, early user releases, measurement, and iteration while ensuring reliability.

• Collaborate with Product and Design as co-owners of the Compose roadmap.

• Utilize customer feedback and usage analytics to prioritize, scale back, or expand product initiatives.

• Elevate engineering standards in areas such as testing, observability, and AI-assisted development.

• Exemplify Mural’s remote-first, work-in-public culture at a sustainable pace.

• Transition Mural’s AI-native product from early access to a dependable, high-quality offering that customers use daily.

• Review pull requests, establish technical standards, and engage in code and architecture decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 2 years of experience managing software engineers directly, including hiring, coaching, and performance evaluations.

• More than 5 years of experience as a software engineer developing and operating production applications.

• Hands-on technical experience within the last 3 to 4 years.

• A strong technical foundation for architecture discussions and code reviews.

• A strong inclination towards experimentation and data-driven decision-making.

• A people-first leadership style, with empathy and the ability to foster psychological safety.

• Exceptional communication skills for articulating technical trade-offs.

• Experience leading a team that has deployed LLM-powered features to production, including evaluation, quality monitoring, and cost management.

• Background in building AI agents, retrieval systems, or knowledge graphs, or familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP).

• Proficiency with Azure OpenAI, React, Node, and MongoDB.

• Legally authorized to work in the country of residence.
