Engineering Manager, Cloud Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture a senior Cloud Engineering team through clear expectations, coaching, constructive feedback, performance management, and support for career development.

• Take responsibility for the operational health of cloud infrastructure, which includes incident response, on-call readiness, service-level objectives, resilience, and disaster recovery plans.

• Initiate and execute a multi-quarter infrastructure insourcing initiative.

• Direct technical priorities and make tradeoff decisions across AWS infrastructure, networking, multi-region Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, GitOps, datastore operations, and compliance-related infrastructure.

• Develop software, automation, and established pathways for secure and independent infrastructure utilization.

• Facilitate migrations by providing guidance, patterns, and enablement support.

• Establish team standards for AI-assisted engineering and minimize operational overhead through AI and automation.

• Preserve team health and continuity during times of change.

• Collaborate with platform and product engineering teams on common infrastructure priorities and dependencies.

• Convey roadmaps, operational risks, investment requirements, and progress updates to engineering leadership and stakeholders.

• Engage in hiring processes and team planning activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience managing an infrastructure, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering team within a product-focused company, including overseeing an on-call team.

• Proven ownership of incident response, on-call health, and service-level objective frameworks for critical production environments.

• Experience leading at least one multi-quarter infrastructure migration or insourcing project from initial planning through to successful completion.

• Technical proficiency in AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.

• Demonstrated ability to take over an existing team and sustain engagement, performance, and retention during leadership transitions.

• A well-defined perspective on team norms and practices for AI-assisted engineering.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in vendor negotiations or cloud cost management is a plus.

• Familiarity with supporting FedRAMP or other compliance-related infrastructure and operations is desirable.

• Experience in operating large-scale datastores or OLAP systems is beneficial.

• Background in expanding a team through funded growth initiatives is a plus.
