This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Manage a team of software engineers while fostering their development and career growth.
• Establish clear expectations, deliver consistent feedback, and address performance issues fairly.
• Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to assess capacity and identify risks proactively.
• Assist teams in overcoming obstacles and enhancing delivery predictability without unnecessary red tape.
• Enhance and refine engineering management practices, encompassing onboarding, succession planning, retention, and operational methods.
• Directly engage in software development for about 20% to 40% of your time.
• Create production software, develop internal tools, build prototypes, and implement technical advancements.
• Mentor engineers and participate in making technical decisions.
• Uphold technical standards by remaining engaged with the work.
• Promote the ongoing growth and advancement of Vestd’s engineering organization.
• Minimum of 10 years of practical software engineering experience.
• Proven success in designing, building, shipping, and maintaining production software.
• Recent hands-on development experience with the ability to contribute to a modern codebase.
• Established experience in managing software engineers within a growing tech organization.
• Strong technical judgment and credibility to mentor engineers and constructively question technical decisions.
• Experience in navigating difficult conversations, addressing performance issues, and supporting career development.
• Practical mindset towards processes and bureaucracy.
• Knowledge of PHP and Laravel, or a similar backend framework, and a willingness to work comfortably in that environment.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable operating in a remote-first setup.
• Primarily based in India and legally permitted to work in India.
• A suitable, quiet workspace equipped with an appropriate desk/table and chair.
