This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Lead the technical direction for Thrivent's Engineering Productivity ecosystem.
• Take ownership of the vision, strategy, and development of platform capabilities that empower engineers to build, deploy, and manage software more efficiently.
• Balance innovation in the platform with operational excellence, ensuring that engineering productivity capabilities are reliable, secure, scalable, and easy to maintain.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, product leaders, and platform teams to identify and address developer pain points.
• Drive the strategy and advancement of self-service engineering capabilities that enhance the software development lifecycle.
• Establish and manage the roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform, ensuring it provides measurable value across engineering teams.
• Continuously assess emerging technologies, tools, and engineering practices to elevate software quality and developer productivity.
• Offer architectural guidance and technical leadership across various engineering teams.
• Mentor and coach engineers in platform engineering, developer experience, cloud-native development, automation, and operational excellence.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Over 8 years of progressive experience in software engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure, or related technology areas, demonstrating a history of enhancing engineering effectiveness and operational results.
• At least 3 years of leadership experience in driving technical strategy, execution, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in people leadership, guiding technical teams responsible for shared engineering capabilities, with proven success in talent development and fostering technical excellence.
• Experience in building, operating, and enhancing an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) at an enterprise scale.
• Proven success in implementing golden paths, paved roads, self-service engineering capabilities, and tools that enhance developer productivity.
• Experience in defining platform success metrics, including adoption rates, developer satisfaction, deployment efficiency, lead time reduction, and friction minimization.
• Experience in improving developer experiences through platform engineering and product thinking focused on adoption.
• Demonstrated leadership and experience managing multidisciplinary, high-performance work teams.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to execute multiple or large-scale projects.
• In-depth understanding of platform engineering, DevOps, cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, developer portals, infrastructure automation, and software delivery platforms.
• Experience collaborating with customers to create solutions for complex business challenges.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to support business initiatives.
• Proven capacity to thrive in a flexible environment and make decisions based on limited information.
• Ability to formulate, implement, and evaluate plans, programs, and procedures relevant to customer relationship and demand management.
