This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +12 more states.
• Lead, mentor, and provide support to a team of engineers through regular one-on-ones, feedback sessions, career development initiatives, goal setting, performance management, and growth planning.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Engineering leads, and other cross-functional teams to define priorities, clarify project scope, manage trade-offs, and deliver valuable payment solutions to our customers.
• Establish clarity around ownership, priorities, technical direction, and team standards to enable the team to execute with focus, accountability, and high delivery expectations.
• Assist the team in decomposing complex payment tasks into clear plans with responsible sequencing, risk management, and realistic delivery timelines.
• Actively contribute as a senior engineer in specific areas, including designing, implementing, reviewing, and supporting backend services, APIs, event-driven workflows, data models, and payment integrations.
• Guide technical decision-making across APIs, services, event streams, third-party payment provider integrations, observability, reliability, and operational workflows.
• Elevate the quality and reliability standards for owned systems through robust engineering practices, automated testing, code reviews, monitoring, documentation, on-call participation, and incident response.
• Promote the responsible use of modern engineering tools, including AI-assisted workflows that enhance quality, developer experience, and delivery.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience leading engineering teams in a product-focused SaaS environment.
• At least 5 years of relevant software engineering experience in building scalable web applications, backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Recent hands-on development experience with Node, TypeScript, Elixir, or comparable backend technologies.
• Familiarity with APIs, service-oriented architectures, event streams, queues, background jobs, relational databases, and production integrations.
• Strong technical judgment to guide architectural decisions, balance trade-offs, and provide direct assistance when the team requires hands-on support.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers, enhance team standards, foster trust, support career advancement, and lead teams through uncertain situations.
• Experience in improving reliability, observability, incident response, and operational ownership for production systems while balancing product speed, technical quality, business risk, customer impact, and long-term maintainability.
• Additional points for experience with Stripe or similar payment platforms, registration workflows, subscription management, financial reporting, B2B SaaS products serving organizations, or practical experience in systems that handle large-scale monetary transactions.
