This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Foster a robust, trust-filled team culture within a remote-first, globally distributed setting.
• Conduct 1:1 meetings, oversee performance management, support career development, and manage onboarding for your direct reports.
• Manage people-related administration (leave, time off, etc.) for your team.
• Take ownership of the hiring strategy for your team and serve as Hiring Manager, being the first interviewer for all roles within the team.
• Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to identify, interview, and secure top talent.
• Play a role in headcount planning, organizational design, and the advancement of engineering leadership at Supabase.
• Oversee the team's roadmap and project management (Linear), ensuring accountability and establishing clear milestones.
• Manage workflow intake and handle Slack triage, the primary inboxes for cross-team requests. You will determine routing, prioritization, or the need to push back on requests.
• Own the team's weekly updates and ensure stakeholders are aligned without adding unnecessary overhead.
• Organize efforts related to support tickets and uphold the team’s service level objectives (SLO).
• Proactively identify and communicate risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to leadership in a timely manner.
• Train as an Incident Commander, leading coordination, resolution, and follow-up after incidents.
• Facilitate blameless post-incident reviews.
• Possess over 5 years of engineering experience, with sufficient depth to gain credibility with engineers working on complex systems.
• Have more than 3 years of experience managing remote engineering teams.
• Have experience managing engineering teams in a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools organization. While experience with developer tools or databases is preferred, we will consider any sufficiently technical background that demonstrates the ability to quickly adapt to a new domain.
• Have successfully managed remote, globally distributed teams that operate asynchronously across different time zones.
• Be technical enough to establish credibility with proficient engineers, while being genuinely enthusiastic about people management. This is the career path you are passionate about, not a fallback option.
• Cultivate psychological safety and a feedback-oriented culture: providing timely feedback, seeking it in return, and creating an environment for the team to do the same.
• Act as a multiplier, focusing on empowering individuals to achieve more collectively rather than striving to be the most technical voice in the room.
• Employ a coaching approach rather than direct oversight. Eliminate obstacles, connect team members to relevant context and resources, and trust your engineers to determine how the work is accomplished.
• Have a proven track record in performance management, with the ability to discuss specific instances of challenging conversations and your approach to navigating them.
• Be comfortable with uncertainty and capable of establishing structure in ambiguous situations.
• Communicate effectively and write clearly. You default to asynchronous communication, proactive context setting, and early identification of risks.
• Be collaborative, humble, and adaptable. You thrive in environments with high-autonomy, working alongside senior individual contributors (ICs) who hold strong technical viewpoints and do not need to be the most knowledgeable person present.
