This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• Lead one or more cross-functional squads within the SAP domain, taking ownership of delivery outcomes, team well-being, and engineering quality within a more complex or ambiguous problem landscape.
• Collaborate with Product Management partners to sustain a healthy backlog, align on priorities, and sequence delivery in a manner that is both sustainable and impactful.
• Oversee the performance and development of direct reports by establishing clear expectations, conducting structured 1:1 meetings, providing timely feedback, and creating individual growth plans that align with career aspirations.
• Manage a diverse group of stakeholders, including escalating and resolving delivery risks, navigating competing demands across teams, and ensuring alignment across functions.
• Promote engineering excellence within squads by advocating for modern practices such as TDD, CI/CD, trunk-based development, and effective software design patterns.
• Contribute to cross-team technical decisions in partnership with Principal/Staff Engineers and the Senior Engineering Manager, particularly in relation to non-functional requirements, architecture, and tooling.
• Identify and address bottlenecks across skills, processes, and tooling, driving enhancements at both the squad and domain levels.
• Acquire a working knowledge of the SAP platform sufficient to inform delivery decisions, evaluate technical complexity, and participate in hiring, onboarding, and capability development for the SAP engineering function.
• Monitor delivery metrics, ensure transparency regarding progress and risks, and foster continuous improvement in squad operations.
• Proven experience in a technical leadership position with direct responsibility for people management, including performance and development discussions.
• Familiarity with, or demonstrated capability to quickly develop fluency in, enterprise platforms such as SAP; prior SAP experience is beneficial but not mandatory for the right candidate. Experience in transitioning enterprise platforms to cloud solutions, especially to AWS, is particularly advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate a complex or multi-squad delivery environment, managing competing priorities and cross-team dependencies.
• Experience in developing engineers and/or team leads through structured feedback, coaching, and career discussions.
• Ability to manage and influence a wide stakeholder group beyond the immediate squad, with clear and proactive communication regarding delivery risks.
• Strong understanding of modern engineering practices: CI/CD, testing frameworks, software design patterns, and DevOps tools.
• Comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy in ambiguous or undefined problem areas.
• Excellent communication skills - able to effectively translate between technical and non-technical audiences swiftly.
