This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Defining and sustaining the core mission, goals, and operating values of the team to ensure each member has a clear sense of purpose and alignment with organizational objectives.
• Establishing and documenting a transparent interaction model for the team, clarifying how external stakeholders and other teams engage with them, and providing visibility into technical boundaries, communication protocols, and roadmap priorities.
• Utilizing the team’s interaction model to minimize friction and cognitive load for both their own team and external partners, guaranteeing that cross-team engagements are intentional and efficient.
• Holding ultimate responsibility for the implementation of Scrum Master best practices within the team, either fulfilling the role personally or delegating tasks to team members while ensuring the successful execution of key rhythms such as daily syncs, planning sessions, reviews, and retrospectives to maintain alignment and momentum.
• Guiding the team in adopting and refining Agile methodologies that best fit their workflow, with a focus on continuous improvement, efficiency, and the department’s delivery goals.
• Actively identifying and eliminating blockers (whether technical, social, or organizational) to keep team velocity and focus intact.
• Collaborating with Product Management to ensure the backlog remains healthy and refined; monitoring work-in-progress (WIP) to avert bottlenecks and managing the team's cognitive load.
• Acting as the manager responsible for the output, quality, and morale of all assigned team(s).
• Shielding the team from external interruptions and distractions to protect deep-work cycles and commitment targets.
• Facilitating internal team communication to lessen the necessity for constant manager-to-manager or team-to-team syncing, thereby promoting a decentralized decision-making model.
• Monitoring team pace to prevent burnout while upholding a high standard of excellence and urgency.
• Owning and overseeing implementation plans and milestone planning with substantial input from the technical team.
• Ensuring technical accountability by supervising ticket work, documentation updates, and managing technical debt.
• Advising the team on quality principles and testing toolsets to ensure that "Quality" is integrated into the process rather than treated as a separate phase.
• Employing the "Inverse Conway Maneuver" by aligning the team's internal communication and structure with the desired modular software architecture.
• Fostering strong, trusting relationships with direct reports through regular one-on-one meetings, emphasizing psychological safety and career development.
• Conducting performance evaluations and consulting with specialized Chapter Leads to ensure technical or design-specific growth.
• Managing the onboarding process for new team members to ensure they are swiftly integrated into the team’s culture and technical stack.
• Setting clear expectations and managing performance discipline in collaboration with Human Resources when necessary.
• Working alongside Product Management and Department Leadership to align the team’s efforts with the broader roadmap.
• Maintaining a thorough understanding of the product domain to effectively communicate priorities and the rationale behind the work to the team.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or comparable experience.
• A minimum of 8 years in Software Engineering within a Developer or Quality Assurance capacity, with at least 2 years in a formal technical leadership or management role.
• Proven capability to serve as the sole manager responsible for the end-to-end delivery, quality, and morale of a cross-functional team.
• Demonstrated success in uniting the functional identities of Development, Quality Assurance, and Design into a cohesive, high-performing team culture.
• Extensive experience in facilitating Agile rhythms and removing technical or organizational barriers to sustain team velocity and rapid flow.
• Act as a steward for team health by cultivating high-trust environments where psychological safety is prioritized, and experimentation is embraced as a learning opportunity.
• Proficient in guiding teams towards architectural alignment and ensuring that quality principles are inherently integrated into the development process rather than being treated as a separate phase.
• Experienced in conducting comprehensive performance reviews and providing high-quality career coaching to direct reports in collaboration with Chapter Leads.
