This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take charge of your team’s rituals — such as standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming — ensuring they are concise, meaningful, and genuinely beneficial.
• Collaborate with your product owner to oversee scope, priorities, and trade-offs; convey the business context necessary for the team to perform effectively.
• Eliminate obstacles for your engineers — whether they involve dependencies, design uncertainties, or processes that hinder progress.
• Engage in and facilitate technical design reviews; guarantee that designs meet quality standards and align with the product and business context relevant to your domain.
• Maintain a hands-on coding role at a senior level: reviewing pull requests, contributing to production code, and sustaining the technical authority to engage in substantial discussions with your team.
• Lead incident triage and response for your product area; conduct retrospectives that genuinely drive improvements.
• Promote monitoring, observability, and performance health within your team’s product area.
• Provide clear, timely feedback to every engineer on your team; hold regular one-on-one sessions focused on growth, obstacles, and wellbeing.
• Make thoughtful hiring decisions for your team — work closely with recruiting, establish the hiring criteria, and manage the process from screening to closing.
• Proactively manage performance — recognize and reward strong contributors; address underperformance in a direct yet constructive manner.
• Regularly communicate team status, risks, and blockers to engineering leadership.
• Over 2 years of engineering management experience in a technology company, leading a team of more than 4 engineers.
• Strong technical foundation — equivalent expertise to that of a Senior Software Engineer.
• Proficient in reviewing code, assessing architecture, and troubleshooting production issues.
• Experience working closely with a product owner or product manager to manage scope, trade-offs, and delivery timelines.
• Proven ability to keep a team’s delivery on track — actively removing blockers and managing priorities rather than merely observing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of providing feedback in a clear and compassionate manner, and representing your team effectively within the organization.
• Self-aware and receptive to coaching — someone who actively seeks feedback and is candid about areas for personal growth.
• Familiarity with agile development practices and a track record of effectively conducting sprint rituals.
• Health insurance
• 401(k) matching
• Paid time off
• Flexible working hours
• Professional development opportunities
