Engineering Manager – AI/ML

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Empower Rula’s AI Engineering team through technical guidance across applied product capabilities and foundational ML platforms.

• Mentor a highly AI-focused group of Senior and Staff engineers.

• Swiftly deliver user-facing features such as transcript summarization and search relevance.

• Design core AI/ML infrastructure including feature stores and AI observability platforms.

• Utilize strong execution speed, Radical Candor in coaching, and a rigorous approach to clinical safety judgment.

• Ensure that AI solutions and models scale securely.

• Cultivate Rula’s AI engineering culture and foster technological synergy to revolutionize mental healthcare delivery and experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in software engineering and machine learning.

• More than 5 years of experience in designing, scaling, and deploying distributed backend systems in cloud environments like AWS and GCP.

• At least 3 years of direct experience in engineering management.

• Demonstrated success in hiring, retaining, and managing high-performing Senior and Staff-level engineers.

• Over 3 years of technical leadership or experience in building core ML infrastructure, such as feature stores, MLOps pipelines, model deployment systems, or AI observability platforms.

• A minimum of 2 years directing or developing production-grade applied AI features, particularly LLM integrations like NLP, transcript summarization, or search, ranking, and relevance engines.

• Proven operational history in managing the delivery of user-facing product features and backend infrastructure platform work across various production release cycles.

• Preferred: experience in shipping advanced AI systems within high-stakes, regulated environments such as HealthTech or FinTech.

• Preferred: hands-on experience in designing production-ready LLM evaluation frameworks utilizing automated metrics, LLM-as-a-judge, and Human-in-the-Loop processes.

• Preferred: practiced philosophy and experience with AI development tools like coding agents, advanced IDE integrations, and automated testing bots.

• Preferred: experience in balancing short-term product delivery with long-term platform investments, technical debt, and infrastructure scaling.
