This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Establish and expand a high-performing engineering team.
• Oversee daily engineering operations, including sprint delivery, technical quality, and capacity planning.
• Promote technical excellence through architecture decisions, code quality, DevOps/GitOps practices, and production reliability.
• Serve as the primary contact for technical obstacles, cross-team dependencies, and delivery risks.
• Collaborate with the SVP on hiring, team development, vendor partnerships, and strategic planning.
• Engineering Team Leadership: Build, guide, and nurture a team of data engineers, analytics engineers, and platform engineers. Set clear expectations, conduct 1:1s, manage performance, and create an environment where top engineers wish to remain and develop. You will be responsible for the team’s output, quality, and morale.
• Sprint Delivery and Capacity Management: Own the engineering delivery rhythm. Facilitate sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives. Manage capacity across multiple workstreams (platform development, migrations, feature development). Ensure that commitments are achievable and fulfilled.
• Technical Design and Architecture: Lead reviews of technical designs and architectural choices. Ensure that solutions are scalable, maintainable, and in line with our medallion data architecture. While you may not design everything, you must guarantee that designs are robust before deployment.
• Engineering Quality and Standards: Develop and uphold engineering practices, including code reviews, branching strategies, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and incident management.
• Collaborate with SVP on Hiring and Onboarding.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Act as the engineering liaison to Insights Hub, Evidence Solutions, Product Solutions, and IT. Translate business needs into technical specifications. Manage dependencies with Corporate IT, Security, and external vendors. Proactively escalate blockers in a clear manner.
• Platform Operations and Reliability: Ensure that production systems meet service level agreements (SLAs). Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols.
• 5 to 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or platform engineering roles.
• 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams (including hiring, performance management, and delivery accountability).
• Direct experience with a modern data stack, including cloud data warehouses (preferably Snowflake), transformation frameworks, and orchestration tools.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex data platform initiatives, such as migrations, consolidations, and greenfield builds.
• Experience working in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments.
• Ability to review code, troubleshoot production issues, and make informed architectural decisions.
• Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
• Flexible work hours and remote work options.
• Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
• A collaborative and inclusive work environment.
