Engineer Manager, Cloud Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture design, execution, and roadmap for a specific engineering team.

• Collaborate with the Product team to define the roadmap, establish commitments, and ensure reliable delivery.

• Oversee engineering results for Cloud Services products, including data protection, security, SSL, email, EADN, and CDN/WAF.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of customer needs, architecture, dependencies, integrations, and operational risks.

• Ensure the sustained health and continuous evolution of the products under your care.

• Draft specifications, review pull requests, and implement actual code modifications.

• Facilitate and advocate for the daily utilization of AI harnessing, agentic tooling, specification-first methodologies, automated pull-request reviews, and reusable skills.

• Define the scope and estimate roadmap tasks on a monthly basis with clear cut-off lines.

• Provide honest status updates and proactively renegotiate deadlines when necessary.

• Address cross-team engineering dependencies before they hinder delivery.

• Enhance DORA performance by targeting review latency, build times, environments, handoffs, and approval processes.

• Mandate testing with every modification, enforce coverage gating on altered code, and require evidence in pull requests.

• Make go/no-go decisions for releases based on substantial evidence.

• Mentor engineers through one-on-one sessions, growth plans, and direct feedback.

• Manage the entire hiring process and uphold hiring standards.

• Oversee on-call rotations, incident follow-ups, toil reduction, and mitigate bus-factor risks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least one year of formal or informal experience in leading engineers.

• Proficiency in Perl, PHP, React, and Vue.

• Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres and MariaDB.

• Experience with CDN, WAF, and server security.

• Currently engaged in hands-on coding and have recently shipped code.

• Capability to review pull requests of AI-generated code and detect issues.

• Proven experience in AI-assisted engineering with measurable outcomes.

• Evidence of improving team efficiency significantly.

• Understanding of DORA metrics or similar, including identification of bottlenecks and implemented improvements.

• Track record of delivering and modernizing software within committed timelines.

• Experience in collaborative scoping and data-driven forecasting.

• Background in managing a production on-call rotation.

• Experience overseeing the hiring process from start to finish while maintaining a high hiring standard.

• Experience leading engineers across various time zones.

• Background in managed hosting, cloud services, or other high-availability service industries.

• Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments with diverse challenges and deadlines.
