Engineer – Flight Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• The Flight Operations Engineer will possess foundational knowledge of aircraft performance.

• They will collaborate with a lead engineer to enhance all facets of aircraft performance, which may encompass takeoff and landing performance, enroute performance, driftdown, terrain clearance, decompression, ETOPS, MEL performance effects, Weight and Balance engineering, and the creation of performance data to support company flight manuals.

• The Flight Operations Engineer will assist in the development of performance software applications, conduct analyses for new stations, markets, and fleets, create tools to boost operational efficiency, and provide support to all internal and external customers in interpreting and analyzing aircraft performance data. This includes maintaining and developing airport and obstacle data, along with NOTAM information and special engine-out departure procedures.

• They will utilize databases and modern analytics tools to enhance operational safety and efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience is required.

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in airline flight operations engineering or a related field focused on a specific United Airlines fleet.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential.

• Candidates must be flexible and willing to be on-call to support operations in alignment with United Airlines' CORE 4 values.

• A solid knowledge and interest in aircraft performance engineering, weight and balance, and airline operations is necessary.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

• Successful completion of an interview is required to meet job qualifications.

• Consistent and punctual attendance is a crucial function of this position.

• Attendance at Boeing and/or Airbus Performance Engineering classes is preferred.

• Strong presentation skills are preferred.

• Experience in airplane performance engineering is also preferred.

• Proficiency in Excel is preferred.

• Python skills are preferred.

• SQL knowledge is preferred.

• Experience in data analytics is preferred.
