Employment Law Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Deliver expert and practical legal counsel to internal stakeholders on a broad spectrum of global labor law and employment-related matters, including hiring, performance management, terminations, and benefits.

• Draft, evaluate, and negotiate employment contracts, severance agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other employment-related documentation.

• Create, draft, and implement company policies and procedures to ensure adherence to local labor laws and regulations.

• Provide advice on employee disciplinary actions, investigations, and grievances, ensuring prompt responses and equitable treatment of employees.

• Work collaboratively with HR to resolve employee relations issues, minimize risks, and assist with cross-functional projects.

• Partner with other internal legal counsels in the employment law team, finance team, and business leaders to address various initiatives, such as incentive plans, protection of IP and confidential information, organizational restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions, including due diligence and integration.

• Keep abreast of modifications in labor and employment laws and regulations.

• Supervise proceedings and litigation, including mediations, administrative charges, demand letters, and employment-related government audits.

• Provide guidance on labor and employment matters in new markets, especially in the EMEA region, including managing and collaborating with external counsels.

• Cultivate relationships with external counsels in EMEA and other required territories.


⛳️ Requirements

• Licensed attorney in Germany.

• At least 5 years of experience as an internal legal counsel in a high-tech or technology firm, focusing on labor and employment law.

• Extensive knowledge of the law and other specialized areas (e.g., contract law, commercial law, and data protection/privacy law), along with practical legal experience in an (international) business environment.

• Experience managing litigation related to employment issues, including discrimination claims and unlawful dismissal.

• Familiarity with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions and their ramifications for employment law.

• Experience advising on employment issues in international markets, particularly in the EMEA region.

• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders effectively.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.

• Capacity to excel in a hyper-growth environment, displaying a strong sense of urgency and mental agility to adapt quickly as business needs change.

• Ability to provide flexible and pragmatic legal advice that balances compliance with the fast-paced demands of the business.

• Highly self-driven, capable of working independently, taking ownership, and maintaining full accountability for legal processes within the region with minimal oversight.
