EMC Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Execute intricate engineering assignments concerning EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics, which includes conducting thorough analyses using similarity assessments, simulation, and/or analytical techniques.

• Facilitate the resolution of electromagnetic-related issues to aid in EMC certification and ongoing activities that support production and in-service operations.

• Define the scope of work and EMC efforts for engineering projects, outline activities and milestones, identify technical risks, and complete tasks based on established priorities.

• Evaluate new and/or modified system or structure designs to analyze technical engineering impacts and suggest EMC compliance strategies. Review pertinent engineering documentation such as test procedures, test reports, and analysis reports. Confirm compliance with certification regulations and recommend approval.

• Offer mentorship to junior team members and interns.

• Assist in the creation and updating of technical requirements for EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics.

• Represent the EMC team in multidisciplinary meetings, engaging with internal and external suppliers, partners, clients, and aircraft OEMs.

• Contribute to enhancements in Bombardier processes and best practices.

• Support and witness EMC tests in Canada, the United States, Europe, or other locations as necessary.

• Prepare and review aircraft-level EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatic Discharge test procedures, oversee testing, and produce test reports.

• Generate Certification Design Compliance Reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess a degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Sciences, or Physics.

• You have a minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience with systems or structures EMC qualification/certification in the aerospace sector. Experience with fuel tank ignition prevention is an advantage.

• You have in-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards (RTCA/DO-160, SAE ARPs) and a high-level familiarity with airworthiness regulations (TCCA, FAA, EASA) and advisory materials related to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics.

• You excel in a team environment and can utilize the community for support from various disciplines, including airworthiness, manufacturing, and others to achieve shared objectives.

• You work independently to meet the goals set for you, your team, and your business division.

• You are recognized as a specialist in at least one aspect of EMC and have demonstrated extensive knowledge and expertise in other EMC areas. Your peers acknowledge you as a resource in the EMC field.

• You have experience in participating in major project and design reviews and can identify technical, schedule, and budget risks associated with EMC.

• You possess strong problem-solving abilities and can apply your expertise to devise innovative solutions within a multidisciplinary team.

• You have good oral and written communication skills, enabling you to effectively convey achievements and challenges to both technical and non-technical management. French language skills are an asset.

• Ideally, you have participated in at least one (1) green civil aircraft development program.

• You have a solid understanding of the aviation industry.

• Experience collaborating with an aircraft OEM and/or aerospace supplier on EMC qualification, certification, and compliance activities is preferred.

• Familiarity with electromagnetic simulation tools is advantageous.
