This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist the FAA Spectrum Engineering Services Group in acquiring, overseeing, and safeguarding civil aviation spectrum resources.
• Organize, coordinate, and implement FAA and non-FAA frequency assignment initiatives.
• Ensure that technical analyses and documentation adhere to FAA Orders, the NTIA Manual (Redbook), and established engineering standards.
• Conduct radio-frequency compatibility assessments to detect and mitigate interference among communications, navigation, and surveillance systems.
• Execute RF propagation, link-budget, EMC, and interference analyses utilizing FAA spectrum-automation and modeling tools.
• Verify technical data, including location, equipment, parameters, emission designator, power, bandwidth, and antenna specifications.
• Work collaboratively with federal and contractor engineers, Service Area Spectrum Offices, and FAA program offices to address technical challenges and enhance records through the assignment and coordination process.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, completion of a formal spectrum management course, or equivalent military experience in spectrum management.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in radio frequency engineering.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Capability to learn FAA-specific software and systems.
• Must be a US citizen.
• Possession of a Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to meet the criteria for one.
• Understanding of spectrum-engineering principles, electromagnetic theory, and RF propagation concerning communications, navigation, and surveillance systems.
• Experience with analytical and automation tools for frequency-assignment processing, data verification, and compatibility analysis.
• Background in evaluating RF system parameters to identify and alleviate interference.
• Familiarity with Spectrum XXI or similar federal spectrum management tools is highly desirable.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations including FSPL, link budgets, noise/interference ratios, and power conversions.
• Competence in interpreting technical data and applying best practices for mitigation to address RF interference issues.
• Awareness of spectrum management functions within the National Airspace System.
• Knowledge of frequency management procedures and the NTIA Redbook.
• Familiarity with NTIA, IRAC, and FCC organizations and their respective sub-committees.
