Electrical Design Estimator – Utility Scale Solar

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Review RFQ packages, electrical drawings, site layouts, single-line diagrams, specifications, bills of material, and associated documentation to comprehend project scope and requirements.

• Conduct thorough electrical material takeoffs, including cable lengths, harness and string counts, connectors, assemblies, accessories, and other materials specific to the project.

• Create project estimates that encompass material costs, vendor pricing, freight, manufacturing expenses, customer specifications, and other project-related factors.

• Identify discrepancies in drawings, missing information, gaps in scope, incompatible materials, and other potential risks.

• Record assumptions, exclusions, and necessary clarifications.

• Verify critical quantities, material selections, calculations, and drawing modifications prior to the release of estimates.

• Collaborate with Supply Chain and manufacturing partners to acquire and confirm supplier pricing, lead times, freight requirements, and other cost-related inputs.

• Assist in proposal development, design modifications, value-engineering opportunities, BAFO activities, and revisions of estimates throughout the sales process.

• Assess changes between estimate revisions and communicate impacts on quantities, scope, costs, materials, and project requirements.

• Maintain well-organized, traceable estimating files and supporting documentation.

• Engage in project award and handoff activities.

• Address estimating needs related to project modifications, additional material requests, spare parts, and change orders.

• Enhance estimating templates, tools, checklists, standards, and review processes.

• Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, and manufacturing partners to support utility-scale renewable energy projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of electrical estimating experience, or equivalent experience in electrical construction or design that includes estimating and material takeoff responsibilities.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, site plans, specifications, and bills of material.

• Experience in performing detailed material takeoffs and developing comprehensive project estimates.

• Strong knowledge of electrical materials, cables, conductors, connectors, and electrical distribution systems.

• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

• Experience with Bluebeam or similar takeoff and document review software.

• Ability to manage multiple complex estimates at various stages of development.

• Preferred: Experience in renewable energy, utility-scale solar, EPC organizations, electrical contracting, or industrial electrical projects.

• Preferred: Proficiency in AutoCAD.

• Preferred: Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).

• Educational background in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical field; relevant industry experience may also be considered.
