This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Create and sustain electrical designs for modular containerized data centers, encompassing single-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, grounding, cable sizing, and raceway layouts in accordance with various low-voltage distribution standards.
• Conduct protective device coordination, arc flash, and short-circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, or similar software; generate field labels and coordination reports.
• Evaluate and provide feedback on vendor submittals for UPS systems, battery systems, cooling distribution units, switchgear, main distribution boards, PDUs, and generator/ATS packages.
• Assist manufacturing partners by addressing RFIs, resolving layout and piping/cable-routing issues, and engaging in factory witness testing.
• Contribute to compliance across multiple jurisdictions concerning international electrical, fire, and mission-critical facility codes, working alongside local Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
• Generate Statements of Requirements, design basis documents, block diagrams, and commissioning protocols.
• Collaborate with mechanical, controls, structural, and fire protection engineers, as well as external consultants.
• Aid in field commissioning and troubleshooting, which may involve occasional international travel to manufacturing partner locations, deployments, and trade events.
• Report directly to the Senior Electrical Design Engineer within the power and integration team.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 3–7 years of post-degree experience in electrical design, including a minimum of 2 years in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial power, or similar complex power distribution environments.
• Proven knowledge of the NEC (NFPA 70) and preferably one or more IEC-based national codes. Multi-jurisdictional design experience is highly advantageous.
• Practical experience with protection coordination and arc flash software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or comparable tools.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and/or Revit MEP, in addition to Bluebeam Revu (or equivalent) for submittal markup.
• Understanding of UPS systems (including double-conversion topology, battery sizing, and parallel operation), medium- and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, and generator/ATS integration.
• Capable of reading mechanical and structural drawings sufficiently to identify interdisciplinary conflicts prior to manufacturing.
• Excellent written communication skills are essential, as you will be crafting RFI responses, submittal evaluations, and technical memos for vendors and executives.
• PE or EIT licensure is a plus but not required.
• Preferred experience with containerized or modular/prefabricated data center solutions.
• Preferred understanding of high-density liquid-cooled GPU systems and their electrical implications, including inrush, harmonics, rack-level power distribution, and busway considerations.
• Preferred familiarity with battery chemistries beyond VRLA and lithium-ion, as well as UL 9540A or equivalent large-scale battery testing requirements.
• Preferred knowledge of NFPA 70E, NFPA 75/76, NFPA 110, and NFPA 855 as they pertain to mission-critical and energy storage installations.
• Preferred experience in coordinating with multiple AHJs and international insurance entities for mission-critical approvals.
• Preferred exposure to BMS/DCIM integration, BACnet/Modbus, and the electrical aspects of controls handoffs.
• Preferred experience collaborating with external manufacturing partners and consultants across various time zones.
• Competitive base salary and equity.
• Medical, dental, and vision coverage (subsidized cost).
• Health savings accounts (HSA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), and dependent care FSAs (DCFSA).
• Retirement plan options, including 401(k) and Roth 401(k).
• Unlimited paid time off (PTO).
• 14 paid company holidays each year.
