This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Taiwan.

📋 Description

• Implement CPJ’s editorial strategy for the Asia-Pacific region.

• Commission, compose, edit, and release daily news alerts, statements, letters, reports, and additional materials.

• Update website content, including the selection of images and writing captions.

• Manage and distribute regional social media content in real time.

• Share regional content through email and various communication channels.

• Ensure content production and publication align with regional time zones and audience needs.

• Edit research concerning journalists who have faced killing, imprisonment, or attacks due to their work.

• Utilize CPJ’s internal knowledge management system, Carta, for research tasks.

• Identify thematic issues and incorporate them into research and analysis strategies.

• Maintain and refresh internal databases with precise regional information.

• Collaborate with the Regional Director, Research & Analysis team, researchers, analysts, and program staff.

• Edit content for structure, grammar, style, accuracy, relevance, and impact.

• Oversee multiple editorial projects under tight deadlines while prioritizing tasks effectively.

• Work with writers of varying experience levels and English proficiency.

• Provide training and guidance to regional staff on editorial best practices.

• Carry out all other assigned duties.


⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5+ years of experience as an editor for a news agency, website, newspaper, or broadcast outlet.

• Ability to identify sensitive or potentially libelous issues and bring them up for discussion.

• Experience in web publishing, including the use of content management systems such as WordPress.

• Proficient in Google Workspace.

• Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to excel in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

• Initiative to recognize tasks and operate independently.

• A commitment to CPJ’s mission.

• Self-motivated, a team player, and comfortable working in a multicultural setting.

• Willingness to work flexible hours as necessary.

• Experience collaborating across time zones with international teams.

• Legal authorization to work in the location for which the applicant applies.

• Preferred: background in international news.

• Preferred: experience working with writers whose first language is not English.

• Preferred: familiarity with AP style.

• Preferred: proficiency in at least one major language relevant to the region.
