This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +5 more states.
• Design and simulate DSP algorithms such as equalization, filtering, estimation, and detection using MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python.
• Advance algorithms from initial concept to fixed-point validation.
• Conduct quantization and bit-width analysis.
• Create bit-true fixed-point models that are suitable for HDL implementation.
• Collaborate with FPGA/HDL and hardware teams regarding pipelining, MAC/resource budgeting, and timing closure.
• Assist in HDL verification through golden-model test vectors and co-simulation.
• Support lab bring-up, characterization, and tuning of DSP-based hardware in relation to real-world channel or sensor behavior.
• Modify existing DSP toolkits for new client domains and standards across various engagements.
• Document algorithm design choices, trade-offs, and validation outcomes.
• Interact directly with customers and internal Fidus FPGA/hardware teams.
• Collaborate across teams including FPGA/DSP, hardware, embedded software, verification, SI/PI, PCB layout, and mechanical/thermal design.
• BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
• Solid understanding of signals and systems: Fourier/Z-transform, digital filter design (FIR/IIR), and sampling theory.
• Practical knowledge of estimation/detection theory (e.g., matched filtering, MMSE, Kalman filtering) or adaptive filtering (LMS/RLS).
• Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python for algorithm design and simulation.
• Experience with fixed-point conversion and quantization trade-off analysis.
• Proven capability to work across the algorithm-to-hardware boundary, directly collaborating with HDL/FPGA teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey algorithm trade-offs to non-DSP stakeholders.
• Welcomes AI as a component of a contemporary engineering toolkit.
• Experience in one or more areas such as optical/wireless communications, radar/sensing, motor control, biomedical signal processing, or semiconductor testing is advantageous.
• Familiarity with high-speed SerDes and PAM4 signaling, including equalization, link training, and FEC awareness is beneficial.
• Knowledge of AMD's Adaptive Computing portfolio or embedded x86 product lines is a plus.
• Familiarity with HDL Coder, HLS, or Simulink-to-HDL co-simulation workflows is desirable.
• Practical lab experience with equipment such as scopes, VNAs, BERTs, or equivalent test instruments is a bonus.
• Experience with safety-critical or regulated development processes is valued for specific projects.
• Ability to quickly adapt across various industries or client domains is a plus.
• Exposure to AI/ML techniques applied to signal processing on FPGAs, GPUs, NPUs, or CPUs is an advantage.
• Experience with dedicated DSP processors is an asset.
• Familiarity with RF front-end systems and ADC/DAC interfaces, including DUC/DDC, is advantageous.
