This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop computer-based models.
• Execute power system analyses on utility distribution networks and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.
• Carry out both long-term and short-term planning studies, including short-circuit analyses, load-flow assessments, motor-starting evaluations, power-factor correction studies, DER impact analyses, load-impact assessments, and related research.
• Engage in client meetings, both internal and external.
• Utilize tools such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, and SKM for system modeling.
• Conduct planning studies focused on system reliability and resilience.
• Evaluate distribution system circuits concerning loading, voltage, reactive power, contingencies, coordination, and overall reliability.
• Undertake studies for new load and generation interconnections.
• Propose solutions and best practices for both standard and non-standard scenarios.
• Execute detailed engineering analyses adhering to established methodologies, criteria, and principles.
• Identify emerging technologies and work practices aimed at decreasing operational costs and mitigating potential safety risks.
• Articulate complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
• Over 2 years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies, which includes hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, and model validation.
• Proficiency in using power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or equivalent software tools.
• Previous experience in or with electric utilities is preferred.
• More than 5 years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies is preferred.
• Experience in forecasting both load and generation growth is preferred.
• Familiarity with short circuit software such as ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP is preferred.
• Knowledge of distribution operation software like ADMS and DERMS is preferred.
• Experience with distribution design and/or drafting using AutoCAD is preferred.
• Proficiency in Python for automating functionalities in power system modeling software is preferred.
• Understanding of utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies is preferred.
• Experience with the design of renewable energy generation facilities, including solar, wind, or battery storage, is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical report writing, are preferred.
• Familiarity with Independent System Operators such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, and SPP is preferred.
