This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Puerto Rico.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop computer-based models
• Conduct power system analyses on utility distribution networks and industrial/commercial electrical power systems
• Execute both long- and short-term planning studies, including short-circuit, load-flow, motor-starting, power-factor-correction, DER-impact, and load-impact studies
• Engage in internal and external client meetings
• Carry out system modeling, including steady-state load flows utilizing CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM, or comparable tools
• Perform planning studies focused on system reliability and resiliency
• Analyze distribution circuits regarding loading, voltage, reactive power, contingency, coordination, and reliability
• Conduct studies for new-load and generation interconnections
• Propose solutions and best practices for both standard and non-standard scenarios
• Execute thorough engineering analyses applying established methodologies, criteria, and principles
• Discover new technologies and work practices aimed at minimizing operational costs and mitigating potential safety risks
• Clarify intricate technical issues to decision-makers and project teams
• Independently manage tasks while collaborating with project teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
• Over 2 years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies
• Proficient in hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, and model validation
• Experienced in using power flow analysis software like CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or similar tools
• Previous experience working with or within electric utilities is preferred
• More than 5 years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies is preferred
• Proven ability to thrive in a customer-centric, project-driven environment
• Experience in forecasting load and generation growth is preferred
• Familiarity with short-circuit software such as ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP is preferred
• Knowledge of distribution operation software like ADMS and DERMS is preferred
• Experience with distribution design and/or drafting using AutoCAD is preferred
• Proficient in Python for automating tasks in power system modeling software is preferred
• Understanding of utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies is preferred
• Experience in designing renewable energy generation facilities such as solar, wind, or battery storage is preferred
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical report writing
• Familiarity with Independent System Operators like PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, and SPP is preferred
