This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take full ownership of ecoATM's global tax function, encompassing tax planning, quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, and compliance with U.S. federal, state, local, and international regulations.
• Act as the primary internal tax authority for the company, serving as the main point of contact for external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
• Design and implement tax planning strategies to manage effective tax rates, optimize cash taxes, utilize credits and incentives, rationalize entities, and leverage NOLs and other attributes.
• Analyze tax implications of business activities, including acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, financing transactions, and changes in capital structure.
• Identify and pursue planning opportunities at federal, state, and local levels.
• Oversee quarterly and annual tax provisions, including current and deferred computations, rate reconciliations, valuation allowance assessments, FIN 48/ASC 740-10 reserves, and deferred tax roll-forwards.
• Prepare or review tax-related disclosures for financial statements and collaborate with external auditors.
• Manage tax-related SOX controls, narratives, walkthroughs, and remediation efforts.
• Maintain the compliance calendar and ensure timely filing of U.S. federal, state, local, and foreign tax returns.
• Direct third-party tax service providers, overseeing scope, deliverables, deadlines, quality of output, and associated costs.
• Manage business license registrations, nexus studies, exemption certificates, audits, notices, and information requests.
• Supervise calculations and reporting for U.S. international tax, transfer pricing, Pillar Two monitoring, permanent establishment risks, withholding tax obligations, and VAT/GST requirements.
• Enhance and refine tax processes, workpapers, calendars, and documentation.
• Promote automation and data integrity utilizing Oracle and the data warehouse.
• Collaborate with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, Payroll, Procurement, and business leadership teams.
• Report on tax risks, effective tax rates, cash taxes, and open issues to the CAO, CFO, CEO, Board, and private equity investors.
• Evaluate and transition outsourced tax functions in-house, including personnel, processes, systems, and documentation.
• Initially function as a hands-on contributor, with plans to recruit, mentor, and develop a small internal tax team.
• Assist with transaction, financing, diligence, and IPO/exit-readiness initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of progressive corporate tax experience, including a combination of public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firms) and in-house corporate tax roles.
• Extensive, demonstrable expertise in managing the ASC 740 income tax provision, encompassing deferred taxes, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, and financial statement disclosures.
• Strong experience in federal and multistate income tax compliance within a multi-entity, multistate context.
• Familiarity with U.S. international tax concepts, including GILTI, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, and Form 5471.
• Basic knowledge of transfer pricing principles and the ability to recognize when to consult a specialist.
• Proven track record of managing third-party tax providers and advisors regarding scope, budget, and timelines.
• Experience with tax planning, compliance, and audit support in a dynamic, growth-driven organization.
• Background in operating within a SOX-compliant or audited setting, including tax control design and documentation.
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, local, and international tax regulations.
• Advanced skills in tax research and analysis.
• Proficiency in tax software, accounting systems, and data management tools.
• Advanced Excel capabilities and comfort with large ERP data sets.
• Ability to effectively utilize Claude and other AI tools for tax research, analysis, workpapers, and reporting.
• CPA and/or Master's in Taxation is highly desirable; JD/LLM in Taxation is also considered.
• Experience in transitioning outsourced tax functions in-house and building or scaling an internal tax team is a significant advantage.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with private-equity-backed or pre-IPO companies, partnership/LLC taxation, Oracle EBS or similar ERPs, OneSource, Corptax, Avalara/Vertex; Snowflake, Power BI, or Alteryx.
