Director, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement the Growth & Acquisition engineering strategy for Autodesk's .com platform.

• Lead, mentor, and nurture a multi-tiered engineering organization through engineering managers.

• Oversee execution across products and platform capabilities that directly engage customers.

• Balance immediate project delivery with platform modernization, scalability, reliability, security, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with leaders in Product Management, User Experience, Marketing, Commerce, Data Science, and Engineering.

• Provide guidance on architectural direction for customer-facing applications and shared platform services.

• Establish engineering operating mechanisms, governance frameworks, and performance metrics.

• Attract, develop, and retain top-tier engineering talent while fostering leadership succession.

• Advocate for modern engineering practices, continuous learning, innovation, and data-informed decision-making.

• Present engineering strategy, technical trade-offs, organizational health, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least 5 years of experience in leading high-performing engineering teams.

• Proven experience owning the long-term engineering vision, technology strategy, and execution for customer-facing platforms.

• Experience guiding multi-team engineering organizations through engineering managers.

• Background in steering platform direction and making technology investment decisions across interconnected systems.

• Experience in establishing engineering operating mechanisms, organizational standards, and performance metrics.

• Strong cross-functional collaboration with senior leaders in Product, Design, Marketing, Commerce, Data Science, and Engineering.

• Capability to make complex decisions involving technical solutions, organizational design, portfolio prioritization, and resource allocation.

• Ability to cultivate engineering leaders and talent while promoting technical excellence.

• Proficient in communicating strategy, risks, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.
