Director, Quality Control – BSA/AML & Sanctions Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead the inaugural independent Quality Control function for Pathward in BSA/AML and Sanctions Operations.

• Establish the QC strategy, framework, standards, operating model, budget, and resource allocation.

• Design and oversee a risk-based, stratified sampling methodology, approving recalibrations of sample plans.

• Define and maintain the error taxonomy, including escalation, root-cause analysis, and re-work procedures.

• Direct and cultivate the QC team, comprising a Manager/Lead and QC Analysts.

• Conduct monthly calibration sessions among QC, Leads, and Managers to resolve disputed dispositions.

• Present QC results and identify thematic trends to BSA/AML governance and risk committees.

• Monitor remediation efforts until completion and provide effective follow-up challenges.

• Manage the Financial Crimes Compliance Independent Testing and Quality Assurance Program Document, ensuring QC documentation is maintained in Doc Control.

• Coordinate read-only access to systems such as Actimize, FCRM, and Bridger while overseeing the QC results repository.

• Collaborate with Independent Testing/QA, Second Line, and Internal Audit teams.

• Assist in regulatory examinations and audits by providing QC artifacts and findings.

• Strategize QC staffing, tools, technology, and automation business cases.

• Maintain QC independence and ensure that the function does not possess any production disposition rights.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

• CAMS certification is required; CFE, CFCS, or CRCM certifications are strongly preferred.

• Over 10 years of BSA/AML experience, including quality assurance/quality control or independent testing.

• More than 5 years of leadership experience, including managing leaders and establishing or scaling a function.

• Proficiency in designing sampling methodologies and error taxonomies within a regulated environment.

• Extensive knowledge of alert, case, complex investigation, and sanctions screening workflows, including SAR quality and the five-element documentation baseline.

• Experience in presenting results and effectively challenging senior governance forums, as well as supporting regulatory examinations and audits.

• Strong strategic QC/QA design capabilities, including statistically valid sampling, calibration, and root-cause analysis.

• Independence and objectivity; ability to constructively challenge the production line and defend methodology to examiners.

• Comprehensive understanding of the five-element documentation baseline and examiner expectations.

• Ability to report findings and thematic trends to governance forums at an executive level.

• Leadership in talent development, performance management, and fostering an independent, high-integrity culture.

• Collaborative approach with second and third lines while maintaining the scope of first-line QC.

• Familiarity with Pathward’s product suite, including Card Issuing/Prepaid, Acquiring, Tax Products, Digital Payments/Faster Payments, Sanctions, and the Bank-vs-Program-Manager framework.
