Director, Product Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and mentor a team of product designers across various product pods, overseeing hiring, performance management, and career development.

• Collaborate with the VP of Design to shape design strategy, organizational structure, and the scaling of the design function.

• Align stakeholders, manage cross-functional dependencies, and provide clarity in projects with uncertain parameters.

• Establish and uphold standards for craftsmanship in interaction patterns, visual execution, design systems, and product quality.

• Determine the role of AI tools and AI-driven product experiences within the product design process.

• Serve as a strategic design partner to senior leaders in Product and Engineering.

• Impact product strategy by providing insights into the needs of fundraisers and donors.

• Make critical design decisions that balance craftsmanship, speed, and business impact.

• Advance Givebutter's design culture through scalable practices, norms, and rituals.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in product design.

• 3 to 5 years of experience managing other designers.

• A robust portfolio showcasing design leadership in complex, multi-surface product environments.

• Proven track record in developing designers at various career levels and intentionally fostering team culture.

• Strong understanding of craft across interaction design, visual design, and design systems.

• Experience in strategic partnerships with Product and Engineering leadership.

• Excellent prioritization skills.

• Outstanding communication skills for executive storytelling and providing actionable feedback.

• Comfortable working in high-growth, ambiguous settings.

• Proficient in AI-driven design and familiar with AI tools.

• Required experience in SaaS or B2B product environments.

• Experience in nonprofit or social impact sectors is advantageous.

• Experience in designing AI-native, automation, or agentic product experiences is highly desirable.

• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
