Director, Privacy Legal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the Legal team's contribution to Reddit's global privacy compliance initiative.

• Offer guidance and counsel regarding US, EU, and other relevant legal frameworks.

• Develop and uphold both external and internal privacy and legal policies and procedures.

• Consult with product and engineering teams on the design and implementation of privacy controls.

• Manage interactions, negotiations, and disclosures with government entities and regulators concerning privacy and data protection compliance readiness.

• Act as the primary legal subject matter expert on privacy and data protection matters.

• Ensure uniformity in privacy advice across the legal department.

• Collaborate with technical teams to probe potential privacy and security concerns and guarantee legal compliance.

• Promote Reddit's privacy-centric approach both internally and externally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master of Laws (LLM), or equivalent law degree.

• Licensed to practice law in your jurisdiction.

• A minimum of 12 years of legal experience at a prestigious law firm or within a corporate legal department.

• At least 5 years of experience in-house focusing on privacy and/or product counseling.

• Proven track record in establishing and managing an effective privacy compliance program in a dynamic, product-oriented environment.

• Familiarity with global privacy regulations and industry standards, particularly those applicable to technology platforms.

• Excellent legal drafting and writing abilities.

• Experience in engaging with regulators, especially within Europe.

• Proven capability in managing a high-performing legal team.

• Strong collaborative skills across various time zones.

• Capacity to foster robust relationships with engineers, product managers, legal peers, and other internal stakeholders.

• Enthusiasm for and active engagement with Reddit as a platform.
