This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Develops, implements, and oversees Occupational Safety and Health Programs across various work sites in Alaska while providing guidance on safety initiatives in multiple other states.
• Participates in and updates annual safety audits for all locations in Alaska, alongside conducting spot audits annually in other states.
• Conducts on-site evaluations at all Alaska locations to assess the effectiveness of safety policies and procedures.
• Inspects work sites to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, covering limited hazardous materials, life safety, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and fire hazard exposures.
• Executes Root Cause Accident Investigations, which include gathering statements, analyzing incidents, and making recommendations for necessary remedial actions.
• Reviews all incident investigation reports and accompanying documents.
• Analyzes and interprets accident or incident reports, assessing recommendations for corrective measures to eliminate unsafe conditions and aids in their implementation.
• Develops written reports following inspections and suggests corrective actions.
• Establishes and ensures adherence to a safety training matrix for our Alaska-based companies.
• Facilitates OSHA-required training for employees according to a predefined training matrix.
• Chairs monthly Safety Committee meetings and keeps detailed minutes.
• Ensures compliance with local government health and safety regulations.
• Manages Workers' Compensation claims for the Alaska companies and oversees First Aid/Near Miss incident administration, which includes reporting claims, implementing corrective actions, monitoring claims, and collaborating with insurers, supervisors, and employees on return-to-work processes.
• Oversees the PPE/work uniform program for our Alaska entities.
• Maintains safety records and files; submits required reports to the parent company, including monthly and annual reports, and prepares reports for management as necessary, including safety KPIs.
• Establishes and implements a return-to-work program for all NorthStar companies.
• Prepares annual OSHA logs for our Alaska companies and ensures they are properly posted.
• Corresponds with regulatory agencies, insurance inspectors, safety consultants, and subcontractors as needed.
• Drafts, prepares, and implements business continuity plans for our Alaska companies and conducts drills to test these plans.
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) are advantageous.
• A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in safety management or a related field, ideally within the energy or utilities sector.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing effective safety programs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA).
• Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001).
• Strong grasp of safety training principles and techniques.
• Experience managing safety committees and engaging employees in safety initiatives.
• Proven capability to develop and deliver safety training programs.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
