Director of Quality Excellence

Posted 1 hour ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +25 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement strategies for AI and Automation in Quality.

• Create and manage a strategy that enhances quality through automation, software-driven quality controls, and AI-based monitoring to minimize dependence on manual audit resources.

• Design AI-powered monitoring systems that detect error signals in real time and highlight risk patterns before they lead to operational or patient-facing mistakes.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to integrate automated quality checks directly into operational systems, ensuring quality is maintained at the point of work rather than inspected afterward.

• Keep a forward-looking roadmap for innovative quality capabilities, assessing new tools and techniques, and incorporating them into the operating model as they develop.

• Transition the quality function from post-error detection to proactive prevention through process controls, system design, and early signal monitoring.

• Identify the conditions and processes that lead to errors and implement design changes to eliminate the failure modes instead of merely catching them later.

• Create predictive indicators that enable the organization to intervene before defects manifest as errors.

• Manage an escalation framework with designated owners, target resolution dates, and established escalation paths for all cross-functional quality issues.

• Drive resolution of quality issues across operational partner teams, ensuring partner leaders are accountable for meeting established timelines.

• Initiate and complete cross-functional quality improvement projects with documented, quantifiable outcomes such as reduced error rates or implemented process changes.

• Engage partner leadership immediately upon identification of issues to prevent them from persisting through review cycles.

• Maintain an active initiative tracker that includes milestones, owners, status updates, and blockers for all ongoing quality projects.

• Deliver staffing models, standardized reporting, and automation roadmaps on promised timelines without needing repeated guidance.

• Quickly escalate obstacles with a written suggested path forward, ensuring no initiative is stalled due to delays in escalation.

• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the core operational workflows overseen by the quality function.

• Conduct structured deep-dives and generate data-supported root cause analyses that pinpoint the issue, its root cause, supporting data, and specific corrective actions.

• Independently analyze error patterns and drivers in executive settings without relying on prepared summaries.

• Prepare structured pre-reads and materials for executive and business reviews.

• Present clear, data-driven narratives that encompass metrics, trends, root causes, actions taken, and outstanding items.

• Independently manage leadership communication and presentations to senior operational audiences, including the executive team.

• Lead and nurture the quality team across audit, analysis, and quality engineering functions.

• Establish reporting infrastructure and quality systems that provide leadership with real-time insights into error rates and contributing factors.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Product to incorporate quality monitoring and automated controls into operational platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

• Over 10 years of experience in operational quality, quality engineering, or process excellence.

• At least 5 years of experience in owning and scaling a quality function, rather than merely operating an existing one.

• A minimum of 5 years managing initiatives across cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.

• Proven ability to translate quality strategy into effective system design, process controls, and operational execution.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a data-driven approach to diagnosing root causes and making decisions.

• Direct experience transitioning a quality operation from manual, retrospective auditing to automated, system-embedded controls.

• Familiarity with AI and LLM applications for quality monitoring, anomaly detection, and proactive error prevention.

• Proven track record in software quality assurance for operational or customer-facing platforms, including test automation, release validation, and collaboration with Engineering on defect prevention and resolution.

• Experience in designing quality processes, documentation standards, and scalable operating models that expand coverage without proportional increases in headcount.

• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and ensure accountability across teams without direct reporting authority.

• Self-driven and proactive, with a tendency to initiate work rather than wait for problems to be defined.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting data-driven narratives to senior leadership.

• Experience in regulated, high-accuracy environments such as pharmacy, healthcare, or clinical operations is preferred.

• Willingness to travel up to 20%.
