Director of Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture a team of skilled product managers and designers.

• Establish strategic context, product vision, and organizational priorities.

• Take ownership of product-market-impact alignment, organizational sustainability, and expanding successful products to additional states.

• Enhance product usability and maintain consistent weekly active engagement.

• Oversee and guide PMs, designers, and developing leaders.

• Create cross-functional practices and optimize team operations.

• Promote the adoption of shared UI standards to improve execution speed and uniformity.

• Collaborate with engineering, data science, state engagement, and marketing teams.

• Stay connected with frontline staff, government officials, and individuals impacted by the justice system through trauma-informed exploration.

• Guide teams through policy and administrative challenges to develop roadmaps and intuitive workflows.

• Demonstrate AI-assisted workflows throughout discovery, scoping, and prototyping phases.

• Report directly to the Chief Impact Officer and collaborate on product direction, team well-being, operational standards, and organizational strategy.

• Travel to engage with state partners, participate in internal meetings, and attend offsite events.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in product management or design.

• Minimum of 3 years managing a team of PMs and/or designers.

• Proven experience in leading senior individual contributors and emerging leaders.

• Background in coaching PMs and designers to prepare them for management roles.

• Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.

• Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations while creating clarity and driving momentum.

• Strong strategic instincts combined with systems thinking capabilities.

• A builder's mindset complemented by strategic rigor.

• Willingness and ability to travel approximately once per quarter.

• Experience in navigating complex, multi-stakeholder environments (preferred).

• Background with mission-driven, nonprofit, or public sector organizations (preferred).

• Personal or professional experience with the criminal justice system (preferred).

• Experience in high-growth startup environments (preferred).

• Familiarity with AI-assisted product development (preferred).
