Director of Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Italy.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the comprehensive cloud infrastructure strategy across the global landscape, encompassing architecture, resource allocation, maintenance, capacity planning, and vendor strategy involving AWS, GCP, Azure, IBM, and OCI.

• Propel ongoing infrastructure cost optimization through effective rightsizing, committed spending, tagging, chargeback discipline, and the elimination of waste.

• Collaborate with executives by articulating infrastructure investments and trade-offs in business terms, presenting roadmaps that influence budget and planning decisions made by the CTO/CFO.

• Make and justify decisions regarding build-vs-buy, multi-cloud versus single-cloud approaches, and centralized versus federated strategies.

• Oversee dependencies across teams including Security, Data, and Product Engineering.

• Develop, mentor, and lead an infrastructure/platform/SRE team; conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching.

• Manage the security posture of the infrastructure, disaster recovery plans, GDPR and other EU regulatory considerations, and incident management protocols.

• Evaluate infrastructure-as-code and team architecture, offering hands-on assistance when necessary.

• Foster innovation in the cloud for organizations via Sysdig's cloud security platform and the Falco open standard.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in infrastructure/platform engineering.

• Over 4 years of direct experience leading infrastructure strategy and budget in a distributed systems setting.

• Proven track record of spearheading cross-departmental initiatives within matrixed organizations.

• Demonstrated experience in achieving measurable cloud cost optimization.

• Capacity to present to and sway C-level executives.

• Extensive hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools, such as Terraform or Pulumi.

• Fundamental understanding of networking.

• Experience with Kubernetes, containerized environments, and cloud-native technologies.

• Knowledge of scalable, high-performance, event-driven infrastructure and reusable cloud components.

• Experience in constructing high-availability, fault-tolerant platforms.

• Background in managing distributed/European teams while addressing EU-specific considerations.

• Experience in people management with a focus on coaching and developing both managers and engineers.

• Experience or a strong interest in CNAPP or FinOps is advantageous.
