This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.
• Lead the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and long-term financial planning, encompassing cash-flow, cost management, and scenario modeling.
• Collaborate with program and departmental leaders regarding budget responsibilities, forecasting, and financial decision-making.
• Prepare and deliver monthly and annual financial statements, analyses comparing budget to actual performance, cash-flow plans, dashboards, and materials for the Board.
• Manage the externally administered investment portfolio, which includes coordinating with advisors, monitoring performance, ensuring liquidity, managing fees, compliance, withdrawals, and reporting.
• Provide guidance to the CEO, Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and Board on significant financial issues.
• Oversee the accounting and administration related to SAFE agreements and other direct or mission-oriented investments.
• Identify revenue shortfalls and new program costs to guide fundraising strategies.
• Assist in business development and revenue-generating strategies.
• Supervise monthly closing processes, balance-sheet reconciliations, payroll approvals, journal entries, revenue tracking, and accounting operations.
• Direct the annual audit process and oversee the preparation of Form 990 along with other compliance obligations.
• Establish and enhance internal controls, financial policies, approval workflows, contracts, financial systems, banking, insurance, and compliance processes.
• Lead the financial tracking and management of grants, including grant budgets, reports, restricted funding, donor reporting, and revenue forecasting.
• Oversee and manage the fiscal sponsorship program throughout its entire lifecycle.
• Supervise and mentor the Controller, focusing on goals, priorities, coaching, feedback, workload management, and professional development.
• Manage external vendors and consultants, fostering a collaborative and organized culture within the Finance team.
• Extensive experience in leading finance for nonprofit organizations.
• Deep understanding of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, financial reporting, audits, Form 990, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience in supporting executive leadership, Boards, and Board committees.
• Background in supervising staff and managing external vendors, consultants, and professional service providers.
• Strong project management abilities and proficiency in handling multiple priorities across various functions.
• Experience in developing or refining systems, workflows, documentation, and internal controls.
• Capability to convey financial information clearly to audiences without a finance background.
• Working knowledge of payroll and benefits-related finance, along with familiarity in HR and people-operations compliance.
• Comfort in a small, entrepreneurial nonprofit setting.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
• Proven proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Airbase, Rippling, Employee Navigator, Fathom, and Google Workspace.
• CPA or MBA is preferred.
• Preferred experience with nonprofit investment portfolios, SAFE agreements or venture investments, fiscal sponsorship programs, organizational change, remote teams, and sectors like racial equity, education, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, or social impact.
• Up to 15–20% travel for team events.
• Coverage for benefits-related finance, which includes payroll benefit deductions and retirement contributions (administrative scope, not necessarily an employee benefit).
