Director of Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Supervise 8–10 simultaneous restaurant construction projects

• Oversee schedules, budgets, and quality assurance across all sites

• Direct ground-up constructions, tenant improvements, and renovations

• Manage comprehensive development and construction projects from site selection to store opening

• Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure designs adhere to brand standards, code regulations, and project goals

• Handle permitting and regulatory approvals with city, health, fire, and building departments

• Collaborate with landlords and stakeholders concerning lease stipulations, site due diligence, utility capacity, and building compliance

• Create and manage project budgets, oversee contractor bidding and selection, and pinpoint value engineering opportunities

• Assess and approve construction documents for feasibility, code adherence, quality, and cost-effectiveness

• Oversee and manage general contractors and subcontractors

• Conduct regular site visits and track project timelines

• Coordinate landlord requirements, lease commitments, and building management approvals

• Manage project closeout, final inspections, punch list completion, turnover, and operational readiness

• Approve change orders, monitor cost overruns, track financial performance, and report to executive leadership

• Collaborate with operations, culinary, design, and executive teams

• Provide guidance to project managers, if applicable

• Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in construction management with progressive leadership roles

• More than 5 years of experience in restaurant, retail, or commercial construction

• Demonstrated ability to manage 5 or more concurrent construction projects from pre-construction to completion

• In-depth knowledge of commercial kitchen construction and equipment coordination

• Strong understanding of MEP systems and construction coordination

• Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, health standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements

• Familiarity with multi-state permitting, inspections, and approvals

• Proficient in construction management, project scheduling, and documentation software

• Expertise in project budgeting, cost management, estimating, and change-order oversight

• Strong skills in managing vendors, contractors, architects, landlords, and internal teams

• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and construction plans

• Willingness to travel to various project locations as needed
