This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Lead the communications function at ARC in collaboration with the CEO and departmental leaders.
• Take ownership of the annual marketing and communications plan that aligns with ARC’s strategic objectives.
• Oversee shared content calendars, manage ownership, timelines, prioritization, and cross-departmental planning.
• Establish priorities and suggest resource trade-offs.
• Enhance the reach, impact, infrastructure, and capabilities of communications.
• Develop and implement integrated, multi-channel fundraising campaigns alongside the development team.
• Create donor stewardship communications, impact reports, annual reports, and materials for major gifts.
• Direct story-based fundraising communications.
• Steer ARC’s brand strategy and architecture.
• Strategize messaging for major initiatives, programs, partnerships, and organizational changes.
• Lead a comprehensive redesign of the website in collaboration with an external contractor during the first year.
• Manage ongoing website content, its performance, and improvement efforts.
• Produce storytelling that highlights patient, caregiver, and clinician perspectives.
• Convert scientific and clinical findings into content that is accessible to general audiences.
• Oversee email communications, newsletters, automated segmentation, and list management.
• Develop and carry out social media strategies across various platforms.
• Supervise the monthly blog editorial schedule, including authors, editing, and scientific advisor reviews.
• Provide support to programs with communications materials and templates.
• Manage communications for signature events, educational programs, and collaborative initiatives.
• Keep track of developments in the field and produce rapid-response content as needed.
• Maintain communications dashboards and provide monthly updates along with quarterly reports.
• Assess campaign performance and adjust communications strategies based on outcomes.
• Manage external vendors, contractors, and oversee the communications budget.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging tools, including AI, while ensuring quality and human oversight.
• Over 7 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, or external relations.
• Direct experience in supporting fundraising and donor communications.
• Experience providing counsel to senior leaders.
• Background in developing thought leadership, media relations, or external communications strategies.
• Proven track record in planning and executing integrated, multi-channel email, social media, web, and print campaigns.
• Demonstrated success in increasing engagement and/or revenue.
• Outstanding writing and editing capabilities.
• Ability to clearly convey complex or scientific information to lay audiences.
• Experience in evaluating and adopting emerging communication technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
• Strong project management skills and executive function.
• Capacity to prioritize among multiple projects and structure cross-functional work.
• Hands-on experience in execution.
• Experience in selecting and managing external vendors.
• Familiarity with larger-scale website redesigns or other significant digital projects.
• Ability to define key performance indicators (KPIs), create dashboards, and use data to inform decisions.
• Preferred: experience in rare disease, patient advocacy, health, or scientific/medical nonprofit organizations.
• Preferred: experience with CRM and email platforms; familiarity with Salesforce is advantageous.
• Preferred: experience with social media tools and design software such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Preferred: experience with brand strategy or architecture.
• Preferred: experience in a small, entrepreneurial nonprofit or fast-paced, lean organization.
• Availability to work Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
