This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +5 more states.
• Act as the financial authority overseeing inventory investments at Bob’s Discount Furniture.
• Define and maintain financial guidelines for enterprise purchasing.
• Serve as the finance representative on the Merchandise Planning Committee (MPC).
• Manage the financial framework of the open-to-buy (OTB) process.
• Ensure that receipt commitments align with the merchandise financial plan and corporate forecast.
• Create the inventory investment envelope categorized by product type.
• Set thresholds for margin, turnover, weeks-of-supply, carrying cost, and working capital.
• Offer executive-level insights into inventory efficiency, financial risks, and opportunities.
• Collaborate with teams in Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, Assortment Planning, Pricing, Supply Chain, IT, and senior management.
• Cultivate and develop the merchandise finance team.
• Lead cross-departmental business initiatives and process enhancements.
• Primarily work remotely in a corporate or home-office setting, with occasional travel up to 20%.
• Work weekdays, with occasional extended hours during month-end closing, annual planning, forecasting, and MPC cycles.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
• Over 8 years of progressive experience in FP&A, merchandise finance, or merchandise planning, including necessary retail experience.
• At least 3 years of people management experience, with a proven track record in developing talent and enhancing team capabilities.
• Proven ownership of inventory investment governance, open-to-buy processes, or similar financial control mechanisms in a retail setting.
• Experience in leading cross-functional projects and designing enhanced processes that involve multiple teams and external partners.
• Strong ability to present to and influence senior and executive-level management.
• Capacity to remain composed in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple workstreams and deadlines.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Comprehensive understanding of OTB mechanics, inventory productivity, inventory turnover, GMROI, weeks of supply, carrying costs, working capital, and return on inventory investment.
• Proficient in advanced Excel and driver-based modeling techniques.
• MBA or CPA designation preferred.
• Experience in the furniture, home goods, or any large-ticket or considered-purchase retail categories preferred.
• Experience in an omnichannel retail environment preferred.
• Background in designing or significantly enhancing an OTB or inventory governance process preferred.
• Familiarity with Blue Yonder, o9, Oracle Retail, Logility, or SAP preferred.
• Experience with Anaplan, Hyperion, or similar platforms preferred.
• Proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker preferred.
• Experience contributing to presentations for Board-level or investor audiences preferred.
