• Take charge of the strategy and roadmap. Collaborate with the CLO and Legal leadership to define Legal’s AI transformation strategy and a multi-horizon roadmap.
• Evaluate the flow of legal work across various stages, including intake, contracting, research, advice, and reporting.
• Create and implement AI-powered workflows for priority use cases, ensuring that error handling, audit trails, privilege-awareness, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints are integrated from the outset.
• Classify all automation projects by risk tier prior to initiation. No project will proceed to production without a designated process owner, documented data flows, confirmed access controls, and an assessment of privilege impact.
• Ensure audit logging for all systems involved with privileged work products, attorney communications, or regulated data.
• Provide training for attorneys and legal staff on AI-assisted tools and workflows that are in production.
• Monitor and report quarterly on the impact of automation: reduction in turnaround time, increase in matters handled per attorney, and the unlocking of attorney capacity for more complex work.
• Over 8 years of experience in a technical, operational, or engineering-related role, showcasing successful implementation of automation and AI solutions at scale.
• Practical experience in designing and deploying AI-powered or automated workflows in a production setting that is utilized by others, rather than just experimental projects.
• Extensive hands-on experience with API integration and middleware, including REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, authentication, error handling, and observability.
• Proficiency in scripting or automation languages, such as Python or SQL, for developing integrations, automations, and backend services.
• Practical experience working with LLM APIs, including tool-calling and multi-step agentic workflows.
• Experience in designing agentic systems that incorporate human-in-the-loop review and safety measures.
• Proven ability to convert ambiguous operational requirements into reliable, production-grade technical systems.
• Strong systems thinking related to reliability, security, permissions, and data integrity.
• Comprehensive understanding of data classification, handling of PII, and relevant privacy and data protection regulations.
• Experience in implementing governance and risk frameworks for AI or automation systems, including risk tiering, human review checkpoints, audit logging, and data classification.
