• Act as the main legal advisor for Rocket's product, engineering, and services teams, offering proactive and strategic legal guidance throughout the entire product lifecycle.
• Oversee Rocket's responsible AI legal initiative.
• Provide counsel on product development, commercialization, and market entry strategies.
• Function as a key legal resource for technology transactions, including licensing, strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions.
• Assist and lead, as necessary, in the management of the IP portfolio, compliance with open source and SCA, and export control issues.
• Work independently with significant autonomy while driving cross-functional legal initiatives, enhancing processes, and ensuring compliance with product and AI legal standards within the organization.
• Strong academic qualifications; a J.D. from an accredited law school is essential.
• Must be in good standing with at least one State Bar.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in law firm and/or in-house legal roles, with considerable expertise in intellectual property, technology transactions, and/or product counsel positions, including significant in-house experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in law firms and/or in-house legal settings specializing in intellectual property law.
• An engineering or relevant technical degree and experience in software and/or high technology sectors.
• Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience with legal issues related to AI and machine learning, including AI governance frameworks, licensing for training data and models, generative AI risks and liabilities, and relevant or emerging AI regulations (such as the EU AI Act and US Executive Orders).
• Proven senior leadership skills, including the capacity to set strategic direction, influence executive-level decisions, and act as a deputy and functional leader across a comprehensive legal portfolio.
• Strong technical fluency in software, AI/ML systems, and related technologies; able to engage meaningfully with engineers and product managers on technical issues and convert technical concepts into legal risk assessments.
• Familiarity with relevant laws, including those concerning software licensing, data protection, and export control.
• Ability to effectively articulate and defend risk assessments; critically evaluate business practices to ensure alignment with legal standards; provide guidance regarding business practice risks.

• The successful candidate will be a flexible self-starter and proactive problem solver who can work independently and manage significant client interactions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial.
• Capable of clearly conveying information, both in writing and verbally, while addressing inquiries from executives, managers, clients, and other employees, with a focus on client service.
• Diplomatic, approachable, and possessing sound business and personal judgment.
• Must effectively manage competing demands from various business clients within a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional organizational skills; able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, follow through, and meet deadlines.
