Director, Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and manage the product engineering organization comprehensively, covering architecture, delivery, and the engineering roadmap.

• Create and empower an engineering team that delivers promptly and reliably, effectively integrating AI solutions.

• Ensure alignment of engineering efforts with business objectives.

• Take ownership of architectural design, delivery, and engineering roadmaps.

• Foster collaboration with Product teams, shaping commitments and ensuring successful delivery.

• Oversee delivery processes on a monthly basis with clearly defined cut lines.

• Define, design, and deliver measurable value each month.

• Establish team boundaries that allow teams to complete their work independently.

• Appoint one accountable Engineering Manager for each team.

• Recruit, develop, and assess engineering managers.

• Maintain the hiring standards and evaluate readiness to lead teams.

• Mentor engineering managers to focus on leadership rather than coding.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least 5 years of experience in leading engineering teams.

• Proven experience in managing other managers.

• Demonstrated success in making an engineering organization significantly faster.

• Experience implementing DORA metrics or a similar framework, with documented improvements.

• Practical experience in AI-assisted engineering at an organizational scale with measurable results.

• Familiarity with agentic tooling, personal harnesses, shared skills, specifications, and review protocols.

• Proven track record of redesigning team and work structures, including boundaries, ownership, cadence, and outcomes.

• Experience in delivering and modernizing complex software across multiple teams.

• Skilled in reassessing project scope or timelines with senior stakeholders.

• Ability to evaluate designs, analyze code changes, and defend technical positions effectively.

• Experience managing a hiring strategy and upholding a high hiring standard.

• Background in running software in production with responsibility for its availability.

• Experience leading remote teams across different time zones, including vendor teams.

• Familiarity with managed hosting, cloud services, or any high-availability service business.

• Sound judgment in AI-native engineering, delivery systems, legacy systems, revenue-generating systems, hosting platforms, and security within an AI-assisted SDLC.

• Knowledgeable in DORA metrics, automated testing and coverage gating, trunk-based delivery, feature flags, observability, service levels, incident management, Perl, PHP, API gateways, identity issuers, event buses, billing and payments, Stripe, cPanel, InterWorx, WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, Shopware, Linux, VMware, Nutanix, secrets hygiene, push protection, static analysis, software supply-chain security, and prompt-injection vulnerabilities.
