
Director Engineering, Adtech – Marketplace

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Establish the engineering vision across the Retail Media and Marketplace sectors.
• Determine the convergence or separation of platforms.
• Lead and expand an engineering team of approximately 40 engineers distributed across 5 to 7 teams.
• Foster the development of Engineering Managers and their respective teams.
• Shape the organization as the domains progress.
• Cultivate an environment that promotes clear ownership and autonomy.
• Oversee delivery, reliability, architecture, and management of technical debt.
• Enhance engineering maturity, enabling teams to operate swiftly without sacrificing quality.
• Collaborate on roadmaps with Product and Commercial teams.
• Link engineering priorities to metrics such as take rate, advertiser ROAS, seller economics, and contribution margin.
• Lead engineering partnerships with external platforms, integrators, and agencies.
• Make decisions regarding build, buy, and partner strategies.
• Supervise integrations, SLAs, and vendor performance.
• Report directly to the Executive Director of Engineering / VP of Engineering.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in leading multiple engineering teams through managers or leads.
• Proven experience in successfully guiding organizations through substantial changes, such as domain mergers, scope expansion, or platform replacements.
• Background in leading the development of commercial B2B platforms, including marketplace, retail media, ad tech, payments, or seller/partner platforms.
• Experience with high-traffic and transactional systems.
• Strong technical judgment complemented by commercial acumen.
• Ability to align engineering decisions with business outcomes.
• Confidence in collaborating with senior Product and Commercial stakeholders.
• Proven track record of driving measurable enhancements in engineering excellence.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity, managing external partners, and balancing competing priorities.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
