This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assume complete responsibility for the month-end close across all digital asset positions, ensuring ownership of the outcome rather than merely overseeing the process.
• Create and present clear, concise reports on close status, outstanding items, and risk areas to the Controller, proactively escalating issues along with recommended solutions.
• Maintain and reconcile thorough digital asset roll forwards for all token types, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and audit-ready support at every close.
• Manage the accounting for tokenized equity issuances, token sales, digital asset transfers, trading fee revenue recognition, and DeFi pool activities, including liquidity provision, yield accruals, and fair value assessments, in accordance with relevant GAAP guidance.
• Ensure that all digital asset positions are fully supported and defensible, with a keen focus on accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements.
• Develop accounting frameworks and policies for digital asset products that are scalable, anticipating the needs of a rapidly evolving business rather than just addressing current challenges.
• Collaborate with Technical Accounting to create and uphold policies and controls that withstand audit and regulatory scrutiny, including new guidance on digital asset accounting.
• Lead the enhancement of our digital asset accounting tool to automate workflows for accounting close processes and tax reporting, minimizing manual effort and enhancing data integrity.
• Act as the main accounting liaison to Product and Engineering teams for new digital asset product launches, assessing accounting implications from the outset and constructing product workflows that guarantee accurate ledger treatment from day one.
• Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Tax, and Legal teams to evaluate and document the accounting and reporting implications of new products.
• Identify risks and opportunities within our digital asset accounting infrastructure before they escalate into issues, and formulate a roadmap to address them.
• Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team, establishing clear expectations and holding team members accountable with both directness and care.
• Utilize large, complex on-chain and off-chain data sets to investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies, driving root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with the Director of Internal Controls on the design, documentation, and ongoing monitoring of SOX controls across digital asset accounting processes to ensure control effectiveness and audit readiness.
• Over 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a people management role, preferably in fintech, digital assets, or a high-growth environment.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP financial reporting as it pertains to digital assets, including tokenized securities, cryptocurrency, and trading activities; experience with emerging digital asset accounting standards is preferred.
• Practical experience with digital asset roll forwards, token issuance accounting, trading fee revenue recognition, DeFi pool accounting (liquidity pools, yield farming, impermanent loss), and blockchain-native transaction accounting.
• Proven experience in designing and enhancing accounting systems and workflows, including optimizing tools for digital asset tracking, accounting automation, and tax reporting, rather than merely operating within existing systems.
• Strong analytical skills with the capability to navigate complex, high-volume on-chain and off-chain data sets to rectify reconciliation variances.
• Experience working directly with Product and Engineering teams, with the ability to translate accounting requirements into product workflows and system design.
• Familiarity with digital assets, crypto, tokenized equity, or blockchain-based platforms; direct experience in a digital asset accounting role is strongly preferred.
• Experience with SOX compliance, including maintaining controls in a public company or pre-IPO environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of clearly reporting digital asset financial status and risks to Controllers, CFOs, or equivalent senior leadership.
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations, applying accounting judgment to novel digital asset structures where authoritative guidance is still developing.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 100% employer-paid premiums for employees and their dependents on select plans.
• Company-provided HSA, FSA, Dependent Care FSA, 401(k), and commuter benefits.
• Employer-paid life and disability insurance.
• 11 observed holidays and a PTO plan.
• Up to 12 weeks of paid family leave.
• Continuing education reimbursement.
