This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, and sustain backend services utilizing TypeScript and Node.js.
• Create and implement role-based access control across various applications and data layers.
• Model and advance relational schemas with Prisma or a similar ORM, including managing migrations.
• Establish and oversee BigQuery access patterns at the row, dataset, and table levels.
• Create well-documented, type-safe APIs for use by front-end and data science teams.
• Utilize AI coding tools within defined guidelines to expedite delivery while ensuring code quality.
• Develop and manage GCP infrastructure, including Cloud Run, Artifact Registry, Cloud SQL, IAM, and VPC Service Controls.
• Define and control infrastructure as code through Terraform.
• Oversee GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines encompassing build, test, and deployment processes.
• Manage security posture through Dependabot triage, dependency and vulnerability resolution, and secrets management.
• Containerize services using Docker and maintain consistent build and release processes.
• Implement observability, logging, and monitoring utilizing Cloud Monitoring and related tools.
• Engage in code reviews, architectural discussions, and incident response activities.
• Facilitate secure, governed access to scientific and analytical data while supporting platform reliability and secure delivery.
• Contribute to discovery research initiatives and scientific data platforms.
• Significant professional backend development experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Practical experience in designing and implementing role-based access control (RBAC).
• Experience in relational schema design and migration using Prisma or a comparable ORM.
• Hands-on experience with BigQuery, including access patterns at the row, dataset, or table level.
• Production-level experience with GCP infrastructure, including Cloud Run, Artifact Registry, Cloud SQL, and IAM.
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code using Terraform.
• Ownership of CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions (build, test, deploy).
• Experience in dependency and vulnerability management, including Dependabot triage and secrets handling.
• Docker containerization experience in a production environment.
• Familiarity with observability, logging, and monitoring best practices using Cloud Monitoring or similar tools.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools (Copilot, Claude, etc.) in a professional context.
• Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team, aligning with a UK or US East Coast schedule.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2–7 years of professional experience in software engineering or platform engineering.
• Strong fundamentals in JavaScript/TypeScript, including asynchronous patterns and typed API contracts.
• SQL expertise sufficient for schema design and query performance assessment.
• Basic knowledge of networking, identity, and cloud security principles.
• Proficient in Git and modern code review workflows.
• Capable of collaborating with diverse groups, including non-technical scientific stakeholders.
• Excellent communication abilities.
• Skilled in managing multiple projects and deadlines.
• A genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for technology.
