This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to create and/or assess overhead and underground distribution design packages.
• Generate construction drawings, maintain materials inventory, perform voltage drop calculations, and manage environmental/FAA/permitting releases, easements, fielding photos and notes, distribution planning coordination requests, and GIS maps.
• Implement overhead and underground electric utility design and construction standards, relevant codes, and industry practices.
• Examine design documents and drawings for precision and thoroughness.
• Resolve discrepancies and issues that arise during design reviews.
• Offer feedback and justifications for any design shortcomings.
• Review updated designs to ensure incorporation of feedback.
• Recognize trends or emerging issues and communicate these to management along with potential solutions.
• Ensure adherence to company and client standards and procedures.
• Provide technical assistance to junior designers.
• Contribute to the objectives of the department and the company.
• Engage in special projects or tasks as necessary.
• A High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is mandatory.
• Designer I: A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in electric utility design related to new business and/or system hardening is required.
• Designer II: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electrical utility design is essential.
• Proven experience in design and analysis for overhead and underground projects is required.
• Expertise in calculating voltage drop and flicker is necessary.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations is a must.
• Proficiency in using O-Calc and AutoCAD design software is required.
• Competence in utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Designer II: Experience with SAP software is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Ability to provide technical support to junior designers is preferred for Designer I; experience in this area is required for Designer II.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.A. on a full-time basis without sponsorship is required.
• Must be able to pass a pre-authorized physical, drug screening, and background check.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% within California.
