Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Design Engineer collaborates closely with Product Design and Product Engineering to create high-quality, user-focused software experiences.

• Concentrates on transforming product and design intentions into scalable, accessible, and efficient interfaces and systems.

• Connects design and engineering by contributing to design systems, frontend architecture, and implementation specifics that directly affect the end-user experience.

• Assists the product team in ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, operational excellence, and compliance standards.

• Develops and maintains user-facing product features with a strong focus on usability, accessibility, and performance.

• Collaborates with Product Designers to convert design concepts, prototypes, and UX flows into production-ready implementations.

• Contributes to and advances the product design system, component libraries, and UI patterns.

• Works alongside Product and Engineering teams to establish interaction patterns, technical constraints, and implementation strategies.

• Ensures design accuracy, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility across supported platforms.

• Promotes best practices in frontend architecture, design quality, and developer experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, design, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience (Required)

• Formal education in UX, HCI, or interaction design (Preferred)

• 3–5 years of experience in developing user-facing software products (Required)

• Proven experience partnering with designers on production applications (Required)

• Experience at product-centric technology companies (Preferred)

• Background in working with design systems or platform-level UI infrastructure (Preferred)

• Experience in creating or maintaining shared design systems (Preferred)

• Strong understanding of modern frontend web technologies and frameworks; product design principles such as usability, accessibility, and interaction design; and design systems and component-based architecture (Required)

• Familiarity with healthcare or regulated digital product environments; performance optimization and web standards (e.g., WCAG); and server-rendered or edge-based web platforms (Preferred)

• Proficient in frontend development skills (e.g., React, TypeScript, modern CSS) (Required)

• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with design and product partners (Required)

• Capability to convert design artifacts (Figma or similar) into high-quality code (Required)

• Skill in balancing design intent with technical limitations (Required)

• Ability to make considered trade-offs between speed, quality, and scalability (Required)

• Proficient in clearly communicating design and engineering decisions (Required)

• Capability to influence product quality through design-driven engineering choices (Preferred)

• Ability to iterate rapidly based on user feedback and product insights (Preferred)
