• Lead the creation and negotiation of innovative partnership and strategic initiative agreements within the insurance ecosystem.
• Act as embedded legal counsel for the Business Development team regarding insurance agency agreements, joint ventures, partnerships, and other strategic initiatives.
• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal and business risks through diligent contract drafting, negotiation strategies, and practical legal advice for internal stakeholders.
• Offer clear and actionable legal guidance to senior management and internal stakeholders on insurance regulatory requirements across all 50 states, encompassing statutory and administrative frameworks, as well as relevant federal laws and regulations such as the GLBA.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Claims, Product, Data Science, and State Management to ensure alignment on risk-based strategies for new and emerging programs spearheaded by the Business Development team.
• Develop high-quality, decision-ready written analyses to assist leadership in strategic planning, risk evaluation, and issue escalation.
• Provide practical and timely legal advice to teams engaged in the development of new products and services across both traditional and digital distribution channels.
• Work in close partnership with cross-functional teams throughout all stages of product development, implementation, and rollout.
• Convert evolving regulatory and commercial developments into actionable recommendations and risk management strategies.
• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and an active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
• Over 7 years of experience in commercial contracting, either in-house or at a reputable mid-sized or large law firm representing corporate clients.
• More than 5 years of experience in insurance regulatory matters, either in-house or at a reputable mid-sized or large law firm representing corporate clients.
• Proven expertise in property and casualty insurance, including previous experience in insurance regulation and commercial contracting.
• Demonstrated proficiency in advising insurance entities and distribution partners on issues that arise in the insurance agency context, including digital agencies, product flows, and commission structures.
• Established ability to provide strategic legal advice under time constraints, with limited or incomplete information, and to exercise sound judgment in uncertain situations.
• Experience in influencing senior leaders and effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• A strong history of embedding with product managers, engineers, actuaries, data scientists, and business development professionals to facilitate the launch of new products and initiatives.
