Deputy Director, Research & Insights

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Establish research priorities that align with the organization's strategic goals.

• Develop and implement polling, focus groups, in-depth interviews (IDIs), mixed-method research, and message testing.

• Analyze results to pinpoint trends that inform legislative strategies, regulatory engagement, and communication efforts.

• Recognize emerging research needs and spearhead rapid-response research initiatives.

• Ensure methodological integrity, compliance, and quality assurance throughout the research process.

• Present research findings to lawmakers, donors, coalition partners, and media representatives.

• Represent YES at research coalitions and industry gatherings.

• Facilitate coordination among internal teams.

• Oversee projects from the development of questionnaires through to fielding, analysis, and final deliverables.

• Manage research vendors, pollsters, consultants, and team members.

• Maintain an internal library of insights and knowledge base.

• Assist in fundraising and grant reporting by providing data-driven evidence.

• Independently drive research projects from initial inquiries to actionable insights.

• Enhance YES's research capabilities and foster partnerships.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in polling and public opinion research, including tenure at a polling firm.

• Proven experience managing both statewide and national quantitative and qualitative research initiatives.

• Technical expertise in survey design, sampling methodologies, quotas, crosstabs, weighting, and research tools.

• Strong political acumen and a solid understanding of policy and advocacy landscapes.

• Ability to convert research findings into strategic insights and effectively communicate results to senior leaders and external stakeholders.

• Excellent project management skills, analytical precision, and a keen attention to detail.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% for conferences, focus groups, and presentations.

• Passion for contributing to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to addressing challenges.

• Research experience in education, tax, healthcare, or other public policy sectors.

• Background in campaigns, think tanks, or advocacy organizations.

• Familiarity with survey platforms and analytical tools.
