This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate the current SQL Server schema, stored procedures, indexes, and relationships
• Detect performance bottlenecks, frequent locking/blocking issues, and inefficient query patterns
• Refactor and enhance poorly constructed SQL queries and stored procedures
• Train developers on creating efficient SQL and adhering to best practices
• Streamline and refactor redundant or outdated stored procedures and tables
• Simplify overly complex joins and table relationships
• Implement and oversee indexing strategies, query plans, and partitioning as required
• Utilize tools such as SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs for diagnostics
• Establish and enforce database standards and governance procedures
• Assist in database documentation and change management processes
• Over 5 years of hands-on experience with SQL Server (2016 or newer)
• Demonstrated expertise in performance tuning and troubleshooting SQL locks, deadlocks, and query bottlenecks
• Extensive knowledge of SQL, T-SQL, indexing strategies, and execution plans
• Experience in reverse engineering complex legacy stored procedure logic
• Capability to communicate findings and improvement strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Nice to Have: Experience with data modeling and schema redesign, familiarity with database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds, or SQL Sentry), understanding of CI/CD practices for database changes, and experience in an Agile or DevOps environment
