Database Administrator – Cloud

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malaysia.

📋 Description

• Conduct DBA activities remotely with clients globally.

• Automate a variety of DBA functions.

• Establish monitoring and perform other tasks on customer servers.

• Execute regular health checks and provide reports on client systems.

• Engage with the community through blogging and various social media platforms.

• Assist the MariaDB team in developing tools and enhancements related to MariaDB.

• Contribute to the improvement of practices and standard methodologies for the Remote DBA team.

• Availability for on-call duties as necessary to ensure customer SLAs are met.

• Oversee SkySQL customers across different cloud environments.

• Provide coverage during designated schedules.


⛳️ Requirements

• Strong desire to serve customers and tackle technical challenges.

• Proficient in MariaDB/MySQL and related tools.

• Skilled in SQL query writing and optimization.

• Knowledgeable in database design, administration, development, or architecture.

• Familiarity with various high availability environments and technologies.

• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Persistent in customer communication and follow-up.

• Comfortable working remotely (equipment will be provided).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Experience with at least one columnar database platform.

• Prior experience with database proxying technology.

• Background in a 24×7 support environment.

• Proficient with various backup utilities (mydumper, MariaDB Backup, Xtrabackup, mysqldump, etc.).

• Previous experience as a support engineer for MariaDB, Percona, or MySQL.

• Familiarity with remote work practices.

• Proficient in one or more scripting languages (Bash, Python, Go, etc.).

• Experience in systems administration (Linux, Windows, etc.).

• Working knowledge of other database systems (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, RDS/Aurora, MongoDB, etc.).

• Contributions to open-source software within the MariaDB/MySQL ecosystem.

• Experience with other MariaDB products like MaxScale, ColumnStore, Cluster/Galera, Clustrix, etc.

• Proficient with virtualization technologies (Xen, VirtualBox, VMware, etc.).

• Familiarity with cloud services.

• Experience using automation toolsets.

• Experience with container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, etc).

• Familiarity with MariaDB/MySQL monitoring software.

• Possession of MariaDB and/or MySQL certifications.
