Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Transform evidence requirements into research inquiries, study frameworks, analytical strategies, and data science methodologies.

• Design, implement, and analyze data utilizing surgical system, product, procedural, research, clinical, financial, and healthcare datasets.

• Utilize descriptive and inferential statistics, longitudinal studies, experimental and quasi-experimental techniques, causal inference, predictive analytics, and machine learning.

• Perform data exploration and feasibility studies, assess data quality, and recognize bias or confounding factors.

• Aid in retrospective and prospective research through hypothesis development, endpoint identification, feasibility evaluations, statistical analysis plans, derived variables, metrics, and analytical techniques.

• Create reproducible analytical workflows utilizing Python, SQL, and other suitable tools.

• Collaborate with data engineering, data management, technical, scientific, medical, clinical, product, and research teams.

• Establish datasets that are ready for analysis while comprehending data provenance and its limitations.

• Convey methods, results, uncertainties, limitations, and implications to scientific, clinical, technical, business, and external research audiences.

• Contribute to research documentation, abstracts, posters, manuscripts, conference presentations, and collaborations with outside researchers and academic institutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; 3 years with a Master's degree; a PhD without prior professional experience; or equivalent work experience.

• Relevant experience in applying data science, statistics, biostatistics, biomedical or health informatics, or other quantitative techniques to complex research, healthcare, engineering, or product data.

• A strong quantitative background and understanding of statistical methodologies, including regression, hypothesis testing, uncertainty estimation, bias, confounding, and the interpretation of observational data.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, analysis, visualization, and reproducible analytical workflows.

• Experience handling large, complex, longitudinal, and/or high-dimensional datasets and assessing data quality and limitations.

• Proven judgment in selecting analytical techniques and resolving moderate to complex analytical challenges.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills for articulating complex statistical, technical, and scientific concepts.

• Strong skills in scientific and technical writing, organization, and collaboration; capable of managing multiple projects with minimal daily oversight.

• A Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Biomedical or Health Informatics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent work experience.

• Training or demonstrated experience in statistical analysis, data science, research methodologies, or related quantitative techniques.

• Capability to work in healthcare and surgical settings, including human or animal laboratories, as necessary.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

• Current proof of vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19, may be required.

• Preference will be given to qualified candidates who do not reside, or do not plan to reside, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, or Tennessee.
